Telegram Premium: features, price and how to get it

Telegram Premium is an optional paid subscription that unlocks bigger limits, faster downloads, voice-to-text, no ads in channels and extra customisation. Telegram stays free without it. Here is what Premium includes, what it costs and how to pay for it, whether it can be had for free, and how to gift it to someone else.

What Premium includes

• 4 GB uploads instead of 2 GB, and faster downloads.
• Voice and video message transcription, and translation of whole chats.
• No sponsored messages in public channels.
• Doubled limits: up to 1,000 channels, 20 folders, 10 pinned chats, 4 accounts in one app.
• Emoji status, animated profile features and custom emoji from any set.
• Story extras: stealth mode, priority order, longer captions.
• Business tools: opening hours, quick replies, greeting and away messages.
• A Premium badge next to your name.

Price

The monthly price is around 5 US dollars in the US and lower in many countries, where Telegram uses regional pricing. Yearly plans cost noticeably less per month. The exact price you pay is shown in Telegram before you confirm, and app store purchases may cost a little more than paying through Telegram's own bot.

How to subscribe

1. Open Settings → Telegram Premium.
2. Choose monthly or yearly.
3. Pay through the App Store, Google Play or @PremiumBot, depending on your device and region.
4. Premium turns on at once on all your devices, because it belongs to the account, not the phone.

Gifting Premium

You can gift Premium for 3, 6 or 12 months: open a contact's profile and choose to gift Premium, or buy it on Fragment, Telegram's marketplace, for crypto. The gift activates on the recipient's account immediately. Gifts are also how channels run Premium giveaways for their subscribers.

Can you get Premium for free?

Legitimately, yes, in a few ways: a gift from a friend, a giveaway run by a channel you follow, or a promotion from Telegram. "Telegram Premium free download" or "Premium mod APK" is not real Premium: Premium is a server-side subscription, and modified apps risk your account and your data.

Is it worth it?

It is worth it if you send large files, use voice messages a lot, manage many chats and channels, or run a small business in Telegram. For casual chatting the free version is complete. Premium also makes a nice gift for heavy Telegram users. If you want to pay in-app things with Telegram's own currency, see Telegram Stars.

Fake Premium offers

• Nobody needs your login code or password to give you Premium. A gift needs only your username.
• Very cheap Premium from strangers is often paid with stolen cards and can be revoked.
• Modified apps promising Premium features for free can steal sessions.

Telegram also hosts mini apps and games. TotalHash, a free mining game in Telegram, works the same with or without Premium.
