How the calculation works

1. Coins bought = investment × (1 − fee) ÷ buy price.
2. Value when sold = coins × sell price × (1 − fee).
3. Profit = value when sold − investment.
4. ROI = profit ÷ investment × 100%.
5. Break-even price = buy price ÷ (1 − fee)². Below it you lose money even if the price went up a little.

Fees matter more than they look

You pay a fee when you buy and again when you sell. On top of that there can be a spread, the gap between buy and sell prices, and network fees when you withdraw coins to a wallet. With frequent small trades these costs can eat the whole profit, which is why the break-even price is shown separately.

Taxes

In many countries profit from selling crypto is taxable income or a capital gain, and losses may offset gains. Rules differ by country and change often, so keep a record of every buy and sell with dates and prices, and check local rules for your situation.

A word about risk

This calculator only does arithmetic. It cannot tell you where the price will go, and crypto prices can fall by half in weeks. Never invest money you may need soon, and be wary of anyone who promises a fixed return. This page is not financial advice.
